Oh, Oh
Massena’s Winter Carnival will be kicking off a week from Thursday.
But we might have a problem.
The snow’s melting.
As I write this, WeatherBug is telling me it’s 53 degrees outside. Yes, you read that correctly – 53 glorious degrees with rain. So we’re watching some of our snow evaporate into thin air.
This will be Massena’s first foray back into the Winter Carnival business after a break of at least 30 years from what I’m told.
But if you look at the schedule of activities that run from Feb. 4-7, snow is kind of an important ingredient to the whole event.
Dog sledding. Yup, snow’s important.
Outdoor hockey tournament. Yup, snow’s important.
Snow volleyball. Well, maybe they could get away with not having any snow.
But the buttom line is, a Winter Carnival needs winter, and that’s not what we’ve got today.
February is normally one of the nastiest months we face weather-wise, so hopefully between now and then – and I can’t believe I’m saying this – the temperature will drop to near zero and we’ll be flooded with snow.
On with the show this is it.
