Friends
Now that I’m up to more than 150 friends on Facebook, the Web site suggests a whole slew of other friends because one of my buddies might know them.
But I was a little taken aback today by one of the friends suggestions.
It was for Chris Garifo, a former reporter who worked out of the Massena bureau of the Watertown Daily Times.

The profile picture showed Chris standing in front of a humongous snow bank in front of our office. I remember that day because he was from Arizona and asked me to take the picture so he could send it to his folks back home. They’d never believe the amount of snow we had, he said.
I would love to be friends with Chris Garifo again.
Unfortunately, I can’t because he passed away in February 2009 after a long fight against non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
I considered Chris a good friend and not a competitor from another newspaper back when he was working for the Watertown Daily Times. And I still consider him a good friend even though he’s no longer with us. And I wish I would have had more time to get to know him better.
So, to Chris, yes, I’ll always be be your friend.
