It Pays To Be Roode
Today I have the distinct privilege of doing a phone interview with TNA star Robert Roode, one half of the tag team Beer Money, Inc., and whose slogan is, “It pays to be Roode.”
Guess which one he favors – the beer or the money?
The interview, set up by TNA’s public relations, is to promote the Feb. 20 show at the St. Lawrence Centre Arena in Massena. Mr. Roode and his partner, James Storm, are among the featured wrestlers for that show.
When I first began tuning into TNA, Mr. Roode was wrestling in singles competitions and was one of the bad boys of the ring. He later teamed up with Mr. Storm and at one point they held the TNA tag team championship and, in the process, became fan favorites. They’re still waging a war against “The British Invasion” to regain those tag team titles.
This weekend Mr. Roode and Mr. Storm are participating in a segment of a pay-per-view show called “Feast or Fired,” when four winning wrestlers will each receive a briefcase and, while three of them hold title shots, one of them has a pink slip.
Hopefully Robert Roode won’t get stuck holding the bag.
I’m looking forward to the interview today, but luckily, being in this profession, it won’t be my first time rubbing elbows with celebrities. In the past I’ve had the opportunity to interview Mickey Rooney, the cast from the old television show “Happy Days” – including the Fonz himself – and I’ve met and interviewed members of the former 1st Airborne Rock and Roll Division, comprised of band members from Cheap Trick, Pablo Cruise, Kansas and the Doobie Brothers.
Ah yes, sometimes life is good in the journalism field.
Other times you just want to get out of the business and into something less stressful.
Like pumping gas.
Today’s one of those good days – or at least some of it.
