The Fat Lady Has Sung

Now that the elections are officially over, it’s a case of “what to do, what to do” at work.

Voting

No more previews of the campaigns, no more mudslinging. It’s all been settled by the voters and we can put the campaign signs – and media releases and robocalls and mailers – away for another year.

But that leaves a void at work, where the elections have consumed so many hours as of late.

We could always do follow-ups, of course, like the town supervisor’s race in Norfolk where Republican Bernie Lanning says he’s going to dispute the 71-vote difference in his apparent loss to Democrat Charlie Pernice because the new voting machines went bonkers.

Or we could do stories on what exactly went wrong with these newfangled machines that were supposed to make life so much better for the voters and the election inspectors.

Or we could do stories on how late a night it was for county election officials as some of the machines failed and if that wasn’t enough their website that reported the final results went ballistic, meaning voters couldn’t see the results unless they went to a brand spanking new page that didn’t link – at least last night – from the county’s website.

Or we could just say, “The election is over. Let’s get back to the normal again, shall we?”

I think I’ll take the latter.
